Some of our favorite swimming pool games to play during the summer!
Swimming in a pool is a lot of fun, but playing games is a lot better when you have a bunch of kids and adults around. When played right, swimming pool games can add hours of fun and really make a simple pool party into an absolute blast! We’ve selected some of the best pool games that will liven up your party or otherwise keep your guests occupied.
Pool Volleyball
Volleyball is a wonderful game for both adults and children, so it should come as no surprise that the pool version is always a lot of fun. All the set basically includes is a volleyball and net that attaches to either side of the pool. The volleyball net is adjustable so that you can lower it a bit for younger kids who want to jump in and play.
Ring Toss Game
If you’re looking for a game everyone can easily participate in, then look no further than a ring toss game. As the name implies, this game simply involves throwing rings onto a floating set of pegs that you place in the water. There are many different varieties available at department stores and pool supply stores, including those that are character-themed your kids will love.
Marco Polo
Going into a crowd of people and yell “Marco!” and there’s a very good chance that someone will respond with “Polo!” just for the heck of it. Marco Polo is a fun game that can involve multiple people and is extremely easy to learn. The rules are simple: someone is chosen to be “it” and will close their eyes at ne end of the swimming pool and count to 10. After yelling “Marco,” everyone else yells “Polo” and then the person designated as “it” keeps their eyes closed (blindfolded is much better) as they splash around in the pool trying to catch the other people.
Freeze Tag
Freeze tag is another great game to play, but make sure that you always have plenty of adults around to ensure that the kids are staying safe. In this game, one person is “it” and will swim after the other people in the pool. When someone is tagged, that person must freeze until someone who is not “it” un-freezes them. If a person goes under the water, then they can’t be frozen, which is one reason why adults must keep a close watch on what’s happening.
Tic-Tac-Toe
To play the normal game of tic-tac-toe, all you need is a pen and paper. One person puts an “X” in a spot followed by someone else putting in an “O,” to get three in a row. The floating version is the same except that it’s an actual playset using a floating tic-tac-toe board along with floating Xs and Os that kids and adults can place on the water.
Pool Basketball
If there’s one water sport that’s more popular than pool volleyball, it’s pool basketball. The concept here is simple: you set up a floating basketball hoop and then the adults and kids splash around in the water and try to make a basket against their opponents. Just like with the volleyball game, pool basketball will allow you to adjust the height and make other changes to the rules so that everyone can participate.
Beer Pong
Although beer pong is typically something that adults play in college, you can set up the same type of game for adults, teens, and even younger kids. The game works by taking turns tossing ping pong balls into your opponent’s cups. Whenever a ball lands in a cup, that cup is removed and the team takes turns drinking whatever is in it (juice for the kids, of course). Just keep in mind that if you play this as adults and use beer, make sure that no one drinks to the point of not being safe in the water.
Chicken Fight
Here’s another game that’s a lot of awesome fun but always needs adult supervision. With this game, people will pair up, with the smaller person getting on the shoulders of a larger person. Then, everyone splashes around in the water and tries to knock the small person into the water. This game is wonderful, but just remember to let everyone know not to get too rough with the pushing so you can avoid any potential injuries.
