After your pool has been installed, there are several things you’ll need to make it complete for a fun, relaxing time for everyone and to keep it in tip-top shape. Today, we’re going to go over some of the most common swimming pool supplies you’ll need after your pool is installed.
Pool Covers
The great thing about pool covers is that they offer multiple benefits. Pool covers create an extra layer of safety, prevent leaves and debris from getting in the water, and keep the water cool on hot days. Manual pool covers will get the job done, but automatic and rolling deck pool covers are the most convenient options.
Skimmer Net
One of the first swimming pool supplies most pool owners pick up is a skimmer net. If you’ve ever been to a friend’s backyard swimming pool, then you’ve probably seen one before. This net is used to remove leaves, bugs, and other debris from the pool. If leaves are a big problem, it’s recommended that you use a leaf rake instead because its bigger net makes it more effective.
Pool Vacuum
Using a pool vacuum or suction cleaner is another way to keep debris out of the pool. Vacuums are highly effective in removing dirt and algae, both of which can stain or damage your pool over time. Like a pool cover, a manual vacuum will suffice, but an automatic version is much more convenient.
Pool Brush
After a while, algae can make your pool walls slimy and gross. To keep your custom swimming pool looking great, you should use a pool brush to remove the algae once per week. For concrete pools that have a plaster surface and for your waterline tiles a steel and nylon bristle brush is best.
Pool Sanitizer
Proper swimming pool supplies are always required to keep the water in good shape. When you first get your pool, chlorine will be needed right away. The best strategy is to stock up on whichever type you decide to use, whether it’s tablets, liquid, or powder. If you’re installing a salt-chlorine generator, then you’ll need to keep approximately 40-50 pounds of salt on hand for every 2000 gallons of water.
Water Test Kit
If you neglect your pool’s pH balance, then you not only put your pool at risk of damage, but anyone going in the pool may experience burning eyes and other ill effects. To maintain the proper pH balance, you must test it two or three times a week. This will keep the water clean and the pool looking great. Some homeowners use manual text kits, but you can also pick up a digital pool tester, some of which can be constantly monitored using a mobile app.
Life Ring
Your list of swimming pool supplies must include a life ring. Many people see this as something for a public pool or while going out on a boat, but it’s definitely for home use, too. If someone is in slight distress in the pool or becomes nervous, tossing a life ring to them will typically do the trick. Just remember that it doesn’t replace pool safety, nor should you neglect to take action to get the person out of the pool.
